The Centre for Disease Control (CDC) features in a lot of good SF TV in the US, but it’s a real government organisation. The CDC has exhorted people to prepare for the Zombie Apocalypse here.
Their reason for encouraging people to be prepared? ”If you are generally well equipped to deal with a zombie apocalypse you will be prepared for a hurricane, pandemic, earthquake, or terrorist attack,” according to Dr Ali Khan at the CDC website.
The CDC runs a zombie blog, they make zombie posters available, and even have a zombie novella. This might help explain why people are so focused on the zombie apocalypse: this is a clever campaign by a government department to exhort people to be prepared for a range of emergencies. Even the Bloggess has urged politicians to run for office on a platform of preparing for the zombie apocalypse.
One wonders, though, if this focus on the zombie apocalypse – no matter how light-hearted the intention – has backfired. There have been a number of cannibal incidents lately, resulting in the CDC denying the existence of a zombie virus. Boing Boing passed this information on to those of us who don’t read the Huff post.
But, let’s face it – we’d rather prepare for the zombie apocalypse than dwell on the Global Financial Crisis created by overpaid fuckwits over whom we have no control. This being the case, I recommend the map of the dead, which shows the best and worst locations world-wide to be in the event of the zombie apocalypse, as well as Google Maps‘ zombie survival blog, showing where you can access food and weapons in the event of the zombie apocalypse.
